Added on: 24th Jul 2015
MOTUO, CHINA
The most remote county in China, it is also the only one that is
completely inaccessible by road. In fact, the best way in is via
an unstable suspension bridge.
ALERT, CANADA
This small Canadian outpost is considered to be the northern most
inhabited place in the world with a population of 5.
LA RINCONADA, PERU
The highest permanently inhabited village in the world is located on a
glacier and has 30,000 inhabitants almost all of which are gold miners.
Getting here in one piece can be a challenge.
BOUVET ISLAND
Closer to Antarctica than any other land mass, this uninhabited island
has its own top level internet domain name (.bv). It also served
as the set for Alien vs Predator.
AMUNDSEN-SCOTT SOUTH POLE STATION
This research station can be found directly over the south pole. It is
so isolated in fact, that a station scientist recently had to administer
chemotherapy on herself due to an inability to leave the continent
for medical attention.
METEORA MONASTERY, GREECE
Although it is a bit touristy these days, the name of these monasteries
reflects their historical isolation. It means “suspended in the sky”.
GASADALUR VILLAGE, FAROE ISLANDS
This village of about 16 people is one of the most isolated villages
on one of the most isolated islands in the world.
MOUNT RORAIMA
Forming the border of Venezuela, Brazil, and Guyana this table top
plateau has been so isolated that much of the plant life on its top is
found nowhere else on the planet.
