CONTROLLING THE DESCENT, NUMEROUS

PASSENGERS DIED ONLY BECAUSE THEY

INFLATED THEIR LIFE VESTS TOO SOON AND

THEN COULDN'T GET OUT OF THE AIRPLANE

In 1996, hijackers took over Ethiopian Airlines flight 961 to Nairobi from Addis Ababa. They wanted to seek refuge in Australia and told the pilot to fly there although he said they wouldn't make it. After running out of fuel the plane crashed in the water. Although the pilot did an excellent job controlling the descent, numerous passengers died only because they inflated their life vests too soon and then couldn't get out of the airplane

The initial script for anchorman involved a bunch of news reporters who crashed in the mountains and then discovered the plane they crashed into held two things - monkeys and martial arts equipment. The rest of the story was a battle of survival and you can probably guess why the script changed

YOUR CHANCES OF SURVIVAL IN A CRASH. WHILE

THE SURVIVAL RATE FOR BUSINESS CLASS

PASSENGERS WAS 49%, THE SURVIVAL RATE

FOR THOSE IN THE BACK WAS 69%

Popular Mechanics did a study on every commercial plane crash since 1971 and found that the farther back you sit, the better your chances of survival in a crash.
