THINGS YOU'VE PROBABLY BEEN CLEANING WRONG

Added on: 14th Aug 2016

SPONGE

Sponge

After doing the dishes, you usually rinse the sponge and

leave it dry, right? Sounds good but it doesn’t remove the

bacteria and germs living on it. To kill them, microwave

the sponge for two minutes on high.

MICROWAVE

Microwave

Talking about microwave, this appliance also needs some

occasional cleaning. Forget clumsy wiping, just mix some

vinegar and water in a cup, put it in the microwave and let

it run for few minutes on high. Then, simply wipe

all the grime away.

IRON

Iron

Well, you probably haven’t been cleaning the iron wrong

because you haven’t been cleaning it at all, right?

But you can do it and it is surprisingly easy – just put

some table salt on the board and iron it. Then, turn the

iron off, let it cool down and wipe the bottom with

a damp cloth.

PAINTING

Painting

If you have a precious oil painting in your living room, you

are probably afraid to clean it all. Not anymore. All you need is a

piece of doughy bread. Pat the painting with it gently and

once the bread is soiled, breaks off another piece and

keep patting until the painting is clean.

SHOWER HEAD

Shower head

A heavily clogged shower head looks disgusting. The good

news is that getting rid of the dirt is easy. Pour white vinegar

in a plastic bag and secure it around the shower head.

After a few hours, take it off and wipe it with a wet cloth.

MATTRESS

Mattress

Don’t beat your mattress any more. Instead, apply baking

soda all over the mattress and let it sit there for a few hours.

Then, just vacuum the soda away. If you want your mattress

to smell nice, add a few drops of an essential oil of

your favourite smell (e.g. lavender).

BLENDER

Blender

How many times have you cut yourself trying to clean your

blender? Enough with all the painful cutting! Put some hot water

and dish soap in the blender and let it run for a

minute or two. Rise and done!

CUTTING BOARD

Cutting board

As wooden cutting boards tend to trap food particles, washing

them with a sponge is simply not enough. Take lemon with salt

and rub them on the board. Salt will dislodge the dirt and

lemon will remove unpleasant odours.

HAIR BRUSH

Hair brush

Untangling your heavily tangled haired brush would take

years (slight exaggeration). Instead, take some scissors and

cut the hair wad along the brush. Then, you can

pick and remove the hair with ease.
