This may sound obvious, but always let people know where you are. Most unsolved cases of hikers-gone-missing would have ended differently had the hikers taken this one simple precaution.

 

 

CHOOSE A SUNSCREEN THAT PROTECTS AGAINST

BOTH UVA AND UVB RAYS

Choose a sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays

 

 

RATHER THAN TRYING TO WATERPROOF ALL OF

YOUR STUFF WITH THOSE SPRAYS, USE SOMETHING

LIKE THOMPSON'S WATER SEAL (YES, THE STUFF

YOU USE ON YOUR DECKING. IT'S A LOT CHEAPER

Rather than trying to waterproof all of your stuff with those sprays, use something like Thompson's Water Seal (yes, the stuff you use on your deck). It's a lot cheaper.

 

 

COLLECT ALL THE WOOD YOU THINK YOU'LL NEED

FOR THE NIGHT IN A PILE. THEN MAKE THE

PILE 3 TIMES BIGGER

Collect all the wood you think you'll need for the night in a pile. Then make the pile 3 times bigger.

 

 

 

GET A HEADLAMP IN WHITE/YELLOW AND RED.

THE RED IS GREAT AT NIGHT. IT ALLOWS YOU

TO SEE WITHOUT WAKING PEOPLE UP. IT

ALSO LETS YOU KEEP YOUR NIGHT VISION

Get a headlamp in white/yellow and red. The red is great at night. It allows you to see without waking people up. It also lets you keep your night vision.

 

 

15 MINUTE ROAD FLARES CAN BE REALLY

HANDY FOR STARTING FIRES WHEN IT'S TOO

WET/WINDY/ETC

15 minute road flares can be really handy for starting fires when it's too wet/windy/etc

 

 

ALWAYS HAVE EXTRA UNDERWEAR AND TOILET PAPER

Always have extra underwear and toilet paper

 

 

BRING POTATOES, WRAP THEM IN TIN FOIL ALONG

WITH SOME SALT AND BUTTER, AND THROW THEM

IN THE FIRE. WHEN YOU PULL THEM OUT THEY'LL

BE DELICIOUS!

Bring potatoes, wrap them in tin foil along with some salt and butter, and throw them in the fire. When you pull them out they'll be delicious!

 

 

SETTING UP TENTS IT THE DARK IS NOT FUN.

FIND A SPOT BEFORE THE SUN GOES DOWN

Setting up tents it the dark is not fun. Find a spot before the sun goes down.
