AS YOU CAN TELL FROM THE TITLE, THE COLD WAR

NEVER ENDED (GEOPOLITICALLY SPEAKING,

THIS COULD ALSO BE DEBATED), IT JUST

SHIFTED TO THE ICE. THE US AND RUSSIA ARE

TWO OF THE MOST DOMINANT ICE HOCKEY

POWERS IN THE WORLD

As you can tell from the title, the Cold War never ended (geopolitically speaking, this could also be debated), it just shifted to the ice. The US and Russia are two of the most dominant ice hockey powers in the world

 

 

THE GREATEST, HOWEVER, IS USUALLY CANADA.

IN FACT, IN 1930, CANADA WAS CONSIDERED SO

DOMINANT THAT THEY DIDN'T EVEN PLAY IN THE

KNOCK OUT ROUNDS OF THE TOURNAMENT.

THEY WERE JUST PUT STRAIGHT INTO THE

CHAMPIONSHIP. AND THEN THEY WON.

The greatest, however, is usually Canada. In fact, in 1930, Canada was considered so dominant that they didn't even play in the knock out rounds of the tournament. They were just put straight into the championship. And then they won.

 

 

IN 1993 CHRIS DRAPER WAS TRADED FOR $1 TO THE

DETROIT RED WINGS. FROM THEN ON HE CAME TO

BE KNOWN AS THE 1 DOLLAR MAN AND WENT ON

TO WIN 4 STANLEY CUPS

In 1993 Chris Draper was traded for $1 to the Detroit Red Wings. From then on he came to be known as the 1 Dollar Man and went on to win 4 Stanley Cups

 

 

HOCKEY IS DANGEROUS. IN 1989, CLINT MALARCHUK,

HAD HIS THROAT CUT OPEN DURING A GAME.

THE ONLY REASON HE SURVIVED WAS BECAUSE

HIS COACH WAS AN ARMY MEDIC

Hockey is dangerous. In 1989, Clint Malarchuk, had his throat cut open during a game. The only reason he survived was because his coach was an army medic.

 

 

IN 1930, ABIE GOLDBERRY ACTUALLY CAUGHT FIRE

WHEN A PUCK HIT SOME MATCHES THAT HE

HAD IN HIS POCKET

In 1930, Abie Goldberry actually caught fire when a puck hit some matches that he had in his pocket.

 

 

WHEN THE TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS WON THE STANLEY

CUP IN 1962 THEY ACCIDENTALLY THREW IT INTO A

BONFIRE AND HAD TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGES

When the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup in 1962 they accidentally threw it into a bonfire and had to pay for the damages

 

 

THE STANLEY CUP HAS MORE THAN 20 ENGRAVING

ERRORS ON IT. FOR EXAMPLE, BOSTON IS SPELLED

"BQSTQN".

The Stanley Cup has more than 20 engraving errors on it. For example, Boston is spelled

 

 

THE NHL DOESN'T OWN THE STANLEY CUP AND IN

THE EVENT OF A LOCKOUT, ANY TEAM COULD

POTENTIALLY CHALLENGE IT

The NHL doesn't own the Stanley Cup and in the event of a lockout, any team could potentially challenge it

 

 

THE BUFFALO SABRES ARE THE ONLY TEAM TO

HAVE KILLED AN ANIMAL DURING AN NHL GAME (A BAT)

The Buffalo Sabres are the only team to have killed an animal during an NHL game (a bat)
