ANIMALS THAT ARE BIGGER THAN YOU REALIZE

Added on: 21st Oct 2016

SPANISH FIGHTING BULL

Spanish bull

Mature bulls weigh anywhere between 500 to 700kg (1100-1600lb),

about the same permissible weight for a Formula 1 racing

car (702kg), this includes the driver.

SALTWATER CROCODILE

Saltwater crocodile

The saltwater crocodile is the planet’s largest living crocodilian.

Average size males reach roughly 17ft (5m) and can weigh

about 1,000 pounds (450 kilograms), which means that

the heavyweight world record holder in powerlifting

(430 kilograms) couldn’t lift one of these guys.

GRIZZLY BEAR

grizzly bear

Most adult female grizzlies weigh about 130–180kg (290–400lb),

while adult males weigh on average 180–360 kg (400–790lb),

that’s about the size of four Leonardo Di Caprio’s

(he weighs 175lb).

TUNA

Tuna

A tuna is a saltwater fin fish that belongs to the tribe

Thunnini, which comprises fifteen species across

five genera. The sizes of this tribe can vary greatly,

with the Bluefin averaging about 2m (6’7ft) in length

and weighing more than 70kg (1,600lb). That’s more

than the heaviest man in recorded history, Jon Brower

Minnoch who weighed an impressive 1,400 lbs.

POLAR BEAR

Polar bear

Polar bears are large carnivorous bears that inhabit

cold climates (within the Arctic Circle). The largest

polar bear ever recorded weighed 2,209 pounds (1,000 kg).

On average, a polar bear can reach heights of up to 10ft tall

(3m) while standing on its hind legs. That’s taller than

the tallest human in recorded history (Robert Wadlow),

who was “only” 8’11 tall (2.72m).

GREY WOLF

Wolf

The grey wolf is the largest extant member of its family,

with males averaging 43–45kg (95–99lb), and females

36–38.5kg (79–85lb). It is also known for its huge

appetite, since it can consume 20 pounds (9 kilograms)

of meat at a sitting, more than a normal family of

8-10 people can consume on a Sunday dinner.

JAPANESE SPIDER CRAB

Japanese spider crab

Fully grown, Giant Japanese spider crabs can reach a leg

span of almost 4m (13ft), a body size of up to 37.5cm

(15 inches) and a weight of up to 20kg (44lb). It is

considered to be the largest known arthropod. Just to

give you an idea of its sheer size, the average

American compact sedan is about 14ft long,

this crab can almost span your entire car.

TIGER

Tiger

On average, tigers are anywhere between 4.8 to 9.5ft

(1.5 to 2.9m) long and weigh 165 to 716lbs. (75 to 325

kilograms). The largest tigers, the Siberian, also called

Amur, can reach lengths of up to 10.75ft (3.3m) and weigh

660lbs. (300kg). Let this sink in for a minute:

a tiger is over 8 times heavier than your average

family dog (using Labradors as a comparison measure).
