THINGS NOT TO DO ON YOUR FIRST DATE
Added on: 21st Feb 2015
DO NOT BE GROSS
Be careful not to do things such as belching or picking your nose
when you are in front of your date. This is not a time to demonstrate
how comfortable you are with your own body, it’s a time to focus on the
other person (and hopefully not gross them away from your life).
DO NOT GO ON A DATE WHEN YOU ARE DRUNK
This advice should be obvious, nevertheless some people have gone
on dates after a booze session without knowing how risky that may be.
You want to have a sharp mind on your first date and it only takes one
Drink for that edge to disappear. Charm your date with your witty
humour and not your witless lack of alcohol control.
DO NOT SMOKE
Especially when you plan to end your date with a kiss. People normally
don’t enjoy kissing an ash tray, so if you do not want to make your
mouth smell or taste like one, refrain from lighting up.
DO NOT EAT GARLIC
Garlic is probably the worst when it comes to making your mouth stink
but the principle is the same with anything you put in your mouth;
you want your mouth to smell good. Remember, you’re going to be
doing a lot of talking and listening (unless it’s a bad date…in which
case a stinky mouth may come in handy).
DO NOT ORDER MESSY FOODS
It’s your first date. You will probably be nervous, which means you are
more likely to make clumsy mistakes. Avoid the opportunity of wearing
your clumsy mistake by ordering food that’s not messy. For example,
spaghetti is probably too messy (any sauce flinging pastas tend to be).
DO NOT FORGET TO SHAVE
Ladies, if you wear any kind of skirt or shorts, your legs need to be
shaved (most guys like shaved legs). Men, some ladies like a scruffy
face, some don’t. Unless you know for a fact that the lady you want to
date likes a scruffy face, don’t take the risk; shave.
DO NOT START TALKING ABOUT MARRIAGE OR
HAVING BABIES
Especially on your first date; never talk about things such as getting
married, meeting her parents or having babies. Dating should be
taken one step at a time. Talking about such things will only make
your date feel uncomfortable.
DO NOT TALK ABOUT YOUR PAST RELATIONSHIPS
Talking about your exes or past relationships while you are on a date
tells your date you have not moved on. Also, how you talk about your
exes will give your date an idea as to how you are going to treat
them in the future.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS WITH YOU
One of the things you should remember is that a date’s purpose is to
create an opportunity to get to know each other. Kids (as cute as they
are) can be a distraction and a hindrance since there are certain
subjects you won’t be able to discuss in front of them.
