MORE WAYS TO SAVE ON YOUR ELECTRIC BILL
Added on: 24th Apr 2015
REPLACE YOUR REGULAR INCANDESCENT LIGHT
BULBS WITH FLUORESCENT OR LED BULBS
Just because incandescent light bulbs are relatively smaller
than fluorescent lamps or LED bulbs does not mean they
consume less electricity than the two others.
The fact is fluorescent lamps or LED bulbs are more
energy-efficient than incandescent bulbs.
UNPLUG ALL APPLIANCES WHEN THEY
ARE NOT IN USE
Most people believe that when they turn off their televisions, their
electricity consumption stops. This is a myth, since power consumption
continues as long as an appliance is plugged in. To make sure that
you save on your electricity bill, unplug all your appliances
when you are not using them.
ADJUST THE THERMOSTAT OF YOUR AIR
CONDITIONER DURING SUMMER
Air conditioners are mostly used during the summer season.
Because of the heat, most people set the thermostat to the
coolest level. You can try to adjust your thermostat to a slightly
warmer temperature in order reduce the amount of electricity
you consume.
DO NOT PUT UNCOVERED LIQUID CONTAINERS
IN THE REFRIGERATOR
Not so many people know that the vapours given off by liquids
inside uncovered containers only add to the workload of compressors.
The heavier the workload of compressors, the higher the amount of
electricity they consume. To reduce your consumption, make sure that
you cover your liquid containers before putting them inside the fridge.
SELECT A REFRIGERATOR OR A FREEZER THAT
IS JUST ENOUGH FOR YOUR NEEDS
The larger your refrigerator, the higher the power it consumes.
If your family is not big enough to require large amounts of food,
pick a smaller refrigerator for your home. Selecting a fridge that is
just enough for your needs lets you make the most of your
electricity consumption.
NATURALLY DRY YOUR CLOTHES UNDER THE SUN
(as much as the weather will allow you to)
Not only will you be able to minimize the use of the electric dryer,
but it also helps you maintain your clothes longer since you eliminate
the possibility of clothes shrinking due to rapid drying.
PROVIDE TASK LIGHTING OVER YOUR WORKING DESK
Providing task lighting over your working desk lets you have
sufficient light while working or studying for an exam without
lighting up the entire room. This helps you reduce the amount of
electricity you consume when staying up late at night.
