BIG MACHINES BEING MOVED

Added on: 23rd Aug 2015

A POWER STATION TRANSFORMER WEIGHING

AN EARTH-SHATTERING 640 TONNES.

The load began its slow journey from Didcot power station in Oxfordshire on Friday and caused 13-mile long tailbacks

The giant transformer, a vital component used to transmit energy at

power stations, and the specialised transporter vehicle combined

were heavier than a space shuttle. The enormous vehicle is 100m

long and 5m wide and took up two lanes of the motorway while it

crawled to its final destination at just 4mph.

DECOMMISSIONED BOEING 747 JUMBO JET MADE

ITS WAY FROM COTSWOLD AIRPORT IN

GLOUCESTERSHIRE TO STAFFORDSHIRE.

The disused plane will eventually be put back together on a site in Staffordshire to provide a studio for interior design university students

Weighing 60-tonnes, the aircraft measures 22 feet wide,

16ft 3ins high and is 137ft long.

MASSIVE CARRIER CRAFT CAN HOLD UP TO 22 BARGES

AND EVEN AN OIL RIG - ON ITS BACK

The ship of all ships: The largest cargo transport ship in the world, the Blue Marlin of Dockwise, carries four pontoons and 18 hulls on its back from Nantong Port, China

The Blue Marlin's dimensions are eye watering. It is 712ft long and

138ft deep and has a deck the size of two football pitches.

A 450 TONNE CATALYTIC CRACKER UNIT

Cat cracker coming down the slip road

The 18 metre tall, 450 tonne load was transported from Ellesmere Port

docks on the north west coast of England to the refinery using self-propelled

modular transporter (SPMT). The SPMT was made up of 30 axles lines,

four files wide. Combined with the cargo, the gross weight of the

transport was 700 tonnes.

THE WORLD'S LARGEST WIND TURBINE BLADE ON THE ROAD

The world's largest wind turbine blade on the road

This is the world's largest wind turbine blade en route to the largest

offshore wind turbine in the world, in Methil, Scotland. At an incredible

273.95 feet (83.5 metres) long by 13.7 feet (4.2 metres) wide, the blade

had to be transported all the way from Denmark, where it was manufactured.

A logistical nightmare.

A SECTION OF THE GIANT SATURN V-APOLLO ROCKET

23 of the Biggest Machines Ever Moved On Wheels
