PEACEFUL COUNTRIES TO LIVE IN
Added on: 23rd Dec 2015
MAURITIUS
Mauritius stands out as the most peaceful country in Africa and the
only one in the top 25 from the continent. According to the
Global Peace Index, the peaceful environment and security the country
offers its citizens and visitors is comforting enough for anyone who
wants to purchase or invest in the country.
SINGAPORE
According to the Institute for Economics and Peace report of the
Global Peace Index released on June 17, Singapore’s state of peace
is “very high,” ranking twenty-fourth out of 162 in the index.
This is a rise from twenty-fifth place in 2014.
SLOVAKIA
Slovakia has recently become a high-income advanced economy
with one of the fastest growth rates in the European Union, results of a
stable democratic government and the social stability and peace that has
dominated the country throughout the past decade.
HUNGARY
In spring 1989, Hungary began dismantling its fortified border with
Austria in what would later become known as the “Peaceful Revolution.”
A few months later, the first crack in the Iron Curtain appeared and
hundreds of East Germans fled across the Austro-Hungarian border.
To this day the country continues to be one of the most peaceful
and safe countries in the world.
SPAIN
For many years Spain has been one of the most open-minded and
free countries in the world after suffering decades of dictatorship.
Relatively recently the Spanish government began promoting gender-based
equality by approving legislation in 2007 aimed at providing equality
between the genders in the political and socioeconomic arenas.
NETHERLANDS
The country’s capital, Amsterdam, has been considered a liberal
centre of art and culture for years while the country was one of the first
to legalize the public use of marijuana and recognize the right of gay
couples to marry.
POLAND
Despite Poland experiencing a lot of violence during the twentieth
century and being one of the countries that suffered the most from
Nazi occupation and Communist regimes afterward, the peaceful
spirit of the country never died. It’s considered one of the friendliest
and peaceful countries in the world with the vast majority of its
citizens being devout Christians.
BHUTAN
Bhutan is a tiny, remote, and impoverished kingdom nestled in the
Himalayas between its powerful and not-so-peaceful neighbours,
India and China. The country is the second most peaceful country in
Asia mainly due to its small size and the peaceful Buddhist culture
and philosophy of its citizens.
NORWAY
Even though Anders Behring Breivik, one of the most notorious
mass murderers in modern history, has given a bit of a black eye to the
country’s reputation lately, according to the Global Peace Index Norway
is still one of the world’s most peaceful and safe places to live.
Furthermore, Norway is the country with the highest level of human
development across the globe, plus the government of Oslo always
places peace at the forefront of its priorities.
